On the drive around the Cap Corse, it is worth stopping in Nonza, so you can strengthen yourself and take a look at the only black beach in Corsica. In the village on a small hill you will find one of the few square fortification towers of the island.

A legend has grown up around the tower: it was besieged by the French in 1768. The responsible captain Casella, who was abandoned by his fearful soldiers, had to defend himself against the overwhelming force of the French. He put a rifle in each window and ran frantically from one rifle to another, pulling the trigger. The French had the impression that there was a whole troop of soldiers in the tower and were ready to negotiate. So the tower was saved.
