In 1908, the Bureau for Benevolence built eight homes for elderly couples on Liverpoolstraat, on land donated by the city of Ghent to commemorate 75 years of Belgium. The design is by architect Jozef De Waele, who was also responsible for similar projects on Prosper Claeysstraat and Slinke Molenstraat. In the mid-nineties of the 20th century, the houses were taken over by the social housing company Ghent Maatschappij voor de Huisvesting and they had the houses renovated around the turn of the century.
