The fountain was planned and created in the 19th century. After being used as a landfill for a while, it was turned into a water fountain with a heron in the summer of 2017. The fountain was inaugurated in December 2018 and is illuminated in the evening.

The Heron Fountain in Lwówek Śląski (Lion Mountain in Silesia) is one of four fountains in the city. The fountain basin is made of concrete, in the middle there is a metal heron figure as a gargoyle. The Heron Fountain is located on Ulica Szkolna in the Planty Park, also known as Piłsudskiego, next to the Franciscan Monastery in the south of the city.
