Here in Marckolsheim there is a memorial to the Maginot Line on the site of the Casematte 35.3 bunker
(.3 says it belongs to the third line of defense, of which the Rhine is the first) .
Because of the nearby Rhine and the high groundwater level, the Maginot Line begins with underground constructions much further north and in this area one was limited to above-ground bunker systems.
Various militaria are exhibited on the grounds of the memorial and in the bunker museum, from both world wars and from different nationalities.
