One of several waterfalls in Gooseberry Falls State Park. This cascade is slightly more challenging to get to than Middle Falls, but it is definitely worth the effort for the wonderful view.

The Gooseberry Falls State Park loop via River View Trail offers a dynamic jogging experience, guiding you through a landscape shaped by ancient volcanic rock and lush boreal forests. You'll encounter multiple waterfalls, including the iconic Gooseberry Falls, and enjoy panoramic views of the Gooseberry River gorge before reaching the rugged Lake Superior shoreline and Agate Beach. This 3.1-mile (5.0 km) route, with 245 feet (75 metres) of elevation gain, is rated moderate and typically takes about 32 minutes, making it a great option for a scenic and engaging run.

As one of Minnesota's most visited state parks, Gooseberry Falls is easily accessible and a popular destination. While the River View Trail itself is considered easy, this loop incorporates varied terrain and moderate elevation changes, requiring good fitness. Parking can fill up quickly, especially during peak times, so plan to arrive early to secure a spot and make the most of your visit.

This park is renowned as "The Gateway to the North Shore," offering a unique geological backdrop of billion-year-old lava flows and structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The trail's highlight is its direct access to the mouth of the Gooseberry River and Lake Superior, providing a distinctive blend of riverine and coastal scenery that sets it apart from other trails in the region.
