The three gates, attributed to the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi, still show their original appearance and give their names to the three main streets, the borghi, that lead directly to Piazza Grande.
All three entrances have the same structure, with a square courtyard through which the street passes, porticoes with arcades on the sides and temporary quarters for the soldiers, the health inspector and the officers.
