Hiking

The museum is in the 17th-century house where the young James Cook lodged as apprentice. It was here that Cook trained as a seaman and acquired those maritime skills which led to his epic voyages of discovery. The museum is packed with interesting artefacts, has loads of information and the guides are extremely knowledgeable.

In three voyages, Cook sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas; mapping lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean.

A short but sweet lane. features a museum dedicated to Captain Cook as well as a few decent pubs (the Green Dragon normally has a stunning choice of bottles, cans and kegs and the quirky den is ...pretty quirky) and eateries. Moutreys is a fave for no fuss Italian food.
