Embark on a challenging 6.5-mile (10.4 km) hike from Chianale, gaining 3316 feet (1011 metres) in elevation over approximately 5 hours and 54 minutes. The route begins with a walk through a dense larch forest before opening up to alpine pastures. As you ascend, the terrain becomes stony and rocky, leading you to the stunning Lago Bleu, known for its vibrant blue waters. Further along, you'll discover Lago Nero, nestled beneath the impressive peaks of Tour Real and Roc della Niera.
This is a difficult and demanding hike, requiring good fitness, sure-footedness, and robust hiking shoes. Be prepared for steep ascents and potentially exposed sections, especially near the pass of the Tour Real. The uphill path may not always be clearly marked, and some areas can be wet due to springs. While popular in summer, particularly Lago Bleu, this high-altitude alpine trail demands careful preparation.
The trail offers superlative panoramas of surrounding peaks like Monviso and Pic d'Asti, making it notable for its magnificent views. You will pass the remnants of Granges Antolina, old stone shepherd residences, adding a touch of history to the landscape. The modern Enrico Olivero bivouac also provides a point of interest along the route, offering views of other nearby lakes.
