The Frog Ponds are more warm springs than hot springs, as they generally top out around 90F. Also, these ponds are on private property and can be closed to the public at the will of the owners. If the gate is closed please respect the closure. Trego Hot Springs are nearby and a good alternative when these are closed.

The Frog Ponds & Trego Hot Springs via Jungo Road gravel loop cycling route offers an unparalleled adventure through the Black Rock Desert's bizarre landscape of ancient lake beds, vast sage plains, and dramatic eroded mountains. This difficult touring bicycle route covers 40.7 miles (65.6 km) with 618 feet (188 metres) of elevation gain, taking roughly 5 hours and 10 minutes to complete. You'll navigate challenging, washboarded gravel roads and the expansive playa, with highlights including the accessible Trego Hot Springs and the unique Frog Ponds, set against a backdrop of the Selenite and Granite Ranges.

Planning your visit requires careful consideration due to the route's remoteness and difficulty. The best time to cycle this route is during spring and fall for more moderate temperatures, though strong headwinds can still be a factor. Parking is typically roadside, but be aware that the Frog Ponds are on private property and access may be restricted. Always carry plenty of water and consider satellite communication, as you'll be far from amenities.

This route is a deep dive into the Black Rock Desert National Conservation Area, known for its profound solitude and unique natural environment. The Trego Hot Springs, with temperatures ranging from 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, are a significant natural feature, offering a chance to soak in a hand-dug ditch from the 1800s. The area's unique geological features, from alkali flats to fragile dune systems, make it a truly distinctive experience for advanced touring cyclists.
