History of the knight's fortress & youth hostel
1368: Knight Heinrich Tuschl zu Söldenau received a fiefdom with the requirement to build a fortress on the nearby mountain. This is how the Saldenburg (sälde = happiness) was created, which is also affectionately known locally as the forest lantern.
Over the centuries, the castle complex changed hands many times and was involved in many conflicts.
