Embark on the Live Oak Spring via Pacific Crest Trail for a moderate hike spanning 7.5 miles (12.0 km). You will ascend 1306 feet (398 metres) over approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, experiencing a diverse landscape. The route guides you past striking rock formations and through pine trees, transitioning from shaded woodlands to more open scrubland, offering a varied outdoor experience.

As you hike, keep an eye out for panoramic views that stretch across the Coachella Valley and extend all the way to the Salton Sea. When planning your visit, be aware that some sections below Live Oak Spring, particularly towards Palm Canyon, might be unmaintained and challenging to follow, requiring good navigation skills. Always carry plenty of water, especially since temperatures can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit during certain seasons.

This section of the Pacific Crest Trail provides a rewarding journey within the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. The trail's unique blend of terrain, from dense pine areas to expansive desert vistas, highlights the natural beauty of the region. It offers a chance to connect with a famous long-distance trail while enjoying significant elevation changes and broad scenic outlooks.
