At the end of the 18th century, the wooden standard mill built in 1663 on the Hollands Bolwerk had to make way for the construction of the dry dock.
The tower mill "De Hoop" was built in 1801 on the instructions of supervisor Jan Blanken. From the high position you have a beautiful view of the Vesting, Red Light District and Haringvliet. Since 1995 there is a visitor center.
