The Ralsko military training area (first Czech, then Soviet) is based on a German military site (when Nazi Germany occupied Czechoslovakia). The Soviet troops expanded the runway in the 1980s to a length of 2.7 km and a width of 80 m, thus creating an airfield on which the Buran space shuttle could also have landed! I discovered some smaller bunkers inside, some demolished aircraft hangars, and huge bomb-proof aircraft hangars (with 40cm concrete at the gate, perhaps 12-16 units). Nuclear warheads are said to have been stored here...
