The Gothenburg Canal was subsequently "straightened" here. A bridge leads to the island, where you'll find a memorial obelisk and information panels (also in German) explaining why this was done.

In order to smooth out a bend in the Göta Canal, a new section of the canal had to be dug. This island was created with the excavation.
On it an obelisk in honor of the builders, a bathing area and some houses.
