As you walk, you can enjoy views of Mount San Jacinto and, from a cliff past Hidden Lake, impressive overlooks of the desert floor, stretching towards Palm Springs on clear days.
To plan your visit, remember that a wilderness permit is required for this area, and rangers often check for them on the trail. The route is easily accessible from the Mountain Station of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Be prepared for changing conditions; winter months can bring snow, potentially requiring snowshoes or spikes to navigate the path.
The trail passes through the Hidden Divide Natural Preserve, showcasing the rich biodiversity of the San Jacinto Mountains. A notable feature is Hidden Lake itself, a unique vernal pool. It often fills with water in the spring, creating a distinct habitat, but tends to dry up in the summer, revealing specialized plants adapted to these conditions.
