Embark on a moderate touring cycling adventure through the scenic Broads National Park with the Horning and Stalham loop from Barton Broad. This 28.9-mile (46.5 km) route, featuring a gentle 406 feet (124 metres) of elevation gain, guides you through picturesque Broadland villages like Horning, Irstead, and Neatishead. You will cycle mostly on quiet country lanes, enjoying views across the River Ant and Barton Broad, where you can spot the unique floating island known as Heater. The journey typically takes around 2 hours and 52 minutes, immersing you in open fields, waterways, and the famous big skies of the Broads. You will also pass traditional thatched-roof cottages and historic churches along the way. This route is predominantly flat, making it accessible for various cycling abilities, though some segments may be unpaved.

This highly-rated loop is ideal for touring cyclists, offering a well-rounded experience. While it is a moderate bike ride requiring good fitness for its full length, the largely flat terrain contributes to its accessibility. You can find refreshments in charming villages such as Horning and Neatishead, perfect for a mid-ride break. If you are looking for a shorter ride, options exist to take shortcuts, allowing you to tailor the distance to your preference.

The Horning and Stalham loop is notable for its many points of interest. You can pause at Irstead Church, a highlight in a charming village on the River Ant, which offers a bench by the water for a picnic. Further along, the River Bure at Horning provides another excellent spot to rest and observe river activity. The route also incorporates a section of the historic Weavers' Way, following an old railway line where you can still see remnants of stations and bridges. Nearby attractions include the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum, Wroxham Barns, and BeWILDerwood adventure park, offering additional activities for your visit. You can also walk along a boardwalk to a viewing platform at Barton Broad, part of a significant water quality improvement project.

Embark on the Weavers Way and Sea Palling loop from North Walsham, a moderate touring cycling adventure spanning 27.0 miles (43.5 km) with 502 feet (153 metres) of elevation gain, typically completed in about 2 hours and 47 minutes. This route guides you through a diverse landscape of woodlands, farmlands, and the tranquil Broadland river valleys before reaching the distinctive coastal scenery of Sea Palling, with its expansive sandy beaches and unique offshore reefs. You will experience a mix of paved and unpaved surfaces, including sections of the historic Weavers Way that follow disused railway lines.

While the Broads National Park is largely flat, the varied terrain on this loop, particularly the potentially narrower, overgrown, or muddy sections of the Weavers Way, means it is best suited for cyclists with good fitness levels. Consider your bike type and whether you are pulling a trailer, as some surfaces might pose a challenge. This route offers a rewarding experience for those prepared for its moderate demands.

This loop uniquely combines the historical significance of the Weavers Way, where you might spot old railway remnants, flint churches, and traditional wind-pumps, with the natural beauty of Sea Palling's coast. As you cycle through the Broads National Park, keep an eye out for its unique flora and fauna, and perhaps even seals or terns near the coast, making this a journey rich in both heritage and natural wonders.
