In 1996, this bronze figure, a "Selzer frog" placed in this place, was donated by the SPD local association, made by Reinhold Petermann and handed over to the population by the Mayor of Mainz at the time, Jockel Fuchs.
According to legend, in the Middle Ages the residents of Selzen were obliged to silence the frogs in the Selz or in ponds by hitting the water with sticks. The landowners wanted to sleep undisturbed by the croaking. That's why the residents are nicknamed "Selzer Frogs".
