The patron saint of the church is St. Lambertus, Bishop of Maastricht around the year 700 and patron saint of the Salian ruling family. The oldest part of the church is the tower, the ground floor of which served as the choir of a previous church. The Gothic choir from 1482 was probably built by a master from the family of the master builder Hans von Mingolsheim, who were active in many areas of the region.
