    The Sasso Malascarpa nature reserve is a protected natural area in Lombardy located between the municipalities of Canzo and Valmadrera. In 2004, Sasso Malascarpa was classified as a site of community importance. The reserve derives its name from an Italian adaptation of the toponym Mascarpa, a variant of the Lombard term maschèrpa (a board for draining whey from milk), by which a rocky mass resembling the shape of such an object is called. The Sasso hosts some bivalve fossils.
