The church was damaged during the First World War, when the towers of the church were demolished and the roof torn off during the shelling of the positions of the Russians entrenched in the city.
The church is the property of the Orthodox community.

Cycling
It was decided to build an Orthodox church in Trakai in 1861. 6,000 rubles were donated for its construction by the Russian Empress Maria Alexandrovna, and 50,000 bricks were donated by G. Adelson, the builder of the Kaunas and Paneriai railway tunnels.
