Embark on the Tracy Ridge Trail for a moderate hiking experience through dense, mixed hardwood forests. This 8.7-mile (14.0 km) route challenges you with 1282 feet (391 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 4 hours and 5 minutes to complete. As you hike, you will find yourself immersed in a vibrant canopy of oak, beech, and hemlock trees, with rewarding panoramic views of the Allegheny Reservoir appearing through the foliage.

When planning your visit, you will find parking available at the Tracy Ridge Trailhead. Be prepared for varied terrain, which can include muddy and wet sections, especially near the reservoir and streams; some stream crossings may not have bridges. If you are considering an overnight stay, dispersed camping is permitted along the trails with some restrictions near the reservoir, and fee-collected campsites are also available at nearby Tracy Ridge Campground, Hopewell, and Handsome Lake.

The Allegheny National Recreation Area, where the Tracy Ridge Trail is located, is a haven for wildlife. Keep an eye out for white-tailed deer and wild turkeys, and be aware that black bears also inhabit the area. The natural ambiance is further enhanced by the soothing sounds of streams like Polly's Run and Johnnycake Run, making this trail a prime example of the region's rich natural beauty and a great option for those seeking a balanced outdoor adventure.
