The Sint-Albanus parish is very old. It probably already existed in the 7th or 8th century. Vlijtingen was one of the eleven benches of Sint-Servaas and the chapter of Sint-Servaas in Maastricht had the collation right of the Vlijtense church. The pastors were mostly Crosiers from the Maastricht Crosier Monastery. A chapel in Hees was subordinate to this parish. The old Romanesque church was demolished in 1844. The tower of the new neoclassical church was built in 1840, the rest of the building in the years 1845-1846.
