This historic building is now used by the National Park Service for their operations. You can find visitor information here, though the building is not always staffed. The official visitor center at 171 Shoreline Drive provides more extensive information and ample parking. An NPS shuttle bus runs between the two locations. You will ascend 2777 feet (846 metres) over an estimated 10 hours and 59 minutes, traversing diverse landscapes. Expect to move through dense tunnels of trees and over rocky ridgelines, where the forest opens up to offer panoramic vistas. This segment of the Appalachian Trail is easily accessible, with multiple trailheads and road crossings making it a popular choice for both day hikers and those tackling longer sections. Always check forecasts and be prepared for the demands of the terrain. Consider starting early to make the most of the daylight, especially given the nearly eleven-hour estimated duration.
