Thanks to its striking architecture, the Feskekörka is one of Gothenburg's landmarks. The name "Feskekörka" is the Gothenburg dialect for "Fiskekyrkan," or "Fish Church."
The Feskekörka was inaugurated in 1874. It was designed by Gothenburg's then city architect, Victor von Gegerfelt. With its characteristic pointed-arch windows and a structure without partition walls or columns, the market hall was a state-of-the-art building for its time.

The building is currently (May 2022) being completely renovated and is completely cordoned off in order to shine again in full splendor next year for the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city. Unfortunately currently not worth seeing.

The Feskekörka has been closed for three years. It is being renovated. In the course of 2024 it should reopen as a fish market hall.
