This small and humble layby sign gained it's name from Queen Victoria's affection for the area; such that it was referred to as Royal Deeside over 150 years ago. When passing by coach, she would order that the horses stop here so that she could admire the views over the valley, looking towards Balmoral Estate and the peak of Lochnagar. And what a view it is!
Nice viewpoint where you can see over to, Lochnagar, Morven and Mount Keen.

Embark on a challenging road cycling adventure with the Queen's View & Cullerlie Stone Circle loop from Aberdeen. This difficult route spans 69.2 miles (111.4 km) and features a significant elevation gain of 3139 feet (957 metres), taking approximately 5 hours and 11 minutes to complete. You will navigate rolling hills and substantial climbs, including the notable Queen's View ascent, as you traverse the picturesque Aberdeenshire countryside. Expect expansive views over diverse landscapes, from open fields and rural communities to river valleys, with glimpses of distant mountains like Lochnagar from Queen's View.

This demanding loop is ideal if you are seeking to test your fitness against considerable climbs while enjoying the natural beauty of the region. The route offers varied road conditions, with some segments potentially being unpaved and difficult to ride, so be prepared for a robust experience. Given its length and elevation, ensure you have very good fitness before attempting this ride. Plan your visit to allow ample time to appreciate the journey and the historical landmarks along the way.

Beyond the physical challenge, the route is rich in history and scenic highlights. You will pass by the Cullerlie Stone Circle, a 4,000-year-old cremation site with eight irregular red granite stones, uniquely situated at the bottom of a valley. The Queen's View itself holds historical significance, named for Queen Victoria, who admired the panoramic vistas over Royal Deeside, including Balmoral Estate. This combination of demanding cycling and cultural discovery makes the loop a favorite among local road cyclists.
