The large number of people attracted increasing numbers of farmers and winemakers, who transported their goods to the Michaelsberg in wheelbarrows and offered primarily wine, sausage, and bread there.
The old Michaelis Chapel was demolished in 1601, and since 1990, a new chapel has once again graced the Michelsberg, built with donations from Dürkheim citizens to commemorate the origins of the Wurstmarkt.
The chapel is not open to the public.
