Embark on the Monte Ferra e Lago Reisassa loop in Valle Varaita for a challenging hike through diverse alpine terrain. Starting from Sant'Anna di Bellino, you will ascend rapidly through Granges Rucias, traversing steep grassy pastures before reaching the heart-shaped Lago Reisassa. The trail then transitions to scree, leading to a saddle and a steep crest to the summit of Monte Ferra, offering views of snow-capped 3000-meter peaks. This difficult route covers 7.5 miles (12.0 km) with an elevation gain of 4140 feet (1262 metres), typically taking around 6 hours and 56 minutes to complete.

This hard hike demands very good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy shoes, along with alpine experience. The ascent to Monte Ferra is particularly strenuous in its final section and is rated for experienced hikers. Make sure you are well-prepared for the steep sections, especially just below the saddle and on the final push to the summit.

The highlight of this loop is undoubtedly the distinctive heart-shaped Lago Reisassa, a picturesque stop before your final climb. From Monte Ferra's 3094-meter summit, you will be rewarded with unparalleled 360-degree views, including the Mongioia-Salza group and Monviso. The Valle Varaita region itself is celebrated for its natural beauty, featuring lush forests and crystal-clear streams that make it a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
