The name "Schusteracht" comes from the fact that the north and south loops form the shape of an eight on the map. At the same time, however, he points out that Preetz has long made a name for itself as a "cobbler's town". The shoemaking trade flourished in the city for centuries; In the middle of the 19th century there were still 160 master shoemakers in Preetz, plus 360 journeymen and 160 apprentices.
