From 1120 onwards, various vineyards and houses in the municipality were donated to monasteries. At the end of the 15th century, the municipality of Ligerz, including Twann and the Tessenberg, was acquired by Bern and incorporated into the Nidau bailiwick. The municipality of Ligerz still belongs to the Nidau administrative district today. During the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century, Ligerz was French territory for a short time.
