Varenbroek is a 66 hectare forest that was a private hunting ground of the de Merode family until 2003. Pedunculate oak and old sessile oak dominate this forest. Rowan, spork, black alder, alder sedge, marsh marigold, wood anemone, celandine, muskwort and honeysuckle fill the bottom layer. Regular residents include middle spotted woodpecker, hawk, buzzard, woodcock, stone marten, fox, roe deer and slow worm.
Location: forest area along Varendonksesteenweg.
The area is accessible all year round.
Dogs are welcome, but on a leash.
Both the walking and cycling nodes pass through the Varenbroek.

Varenbroek is a woodland area east of Bergom, part of the Antwerp municipality of Herselt, located on Varendonksesteenweg.
Until 2003, the forest was a private hunting ground of the de Merode family. The 66-hectare forest is dominated by common oaks, with some also growing in the area. It is home to rowan, alder buckthorn, black alder, alder sedge, marsh marigold, wood anemone, celandine, musk plant, and wild honeysuckle. Wildlife includes the middle spotted woodpecker, hawk, buzzard, woodcock, stone marten, fox, roe deer, and slow worm.
