    Hiking

The Shady Ridge Trail is a rooty and rocky path that offers great views of the lake. The trail connects two different day-use areas by following the shore for the entirety of the path. There are a couple of sections that are tucked in a dense jungle of trees, too.

The Shady Ridge Trail offers a serene, shaded hiking experience through dry-mesic chert woodland, hugging the shoreline of Lake of the Ozarks. You'll find yourself immersed in a quiet forest, almost entirely covered by white and black oak trees, with the ambient sounds of the lake providing a tranquil backdrop. This easy 1.9-mile (3.0 km) route, with just 55 feet (17 metres) of elevation gain, takes about 46 minutes to complete, making it a perfect short escape into nature.

Planning your visit is straightforward, as the trail connects the Grand Glaze Beach area with the Pa He Tsi area within Lake of the Ozarks State Park. While the path is generally easy, be mindful of natural surfaces like dirt, gravel, and roots, and be prepared for a few stream crossings that can be slick after rain. The trail's extensive shade makes it an excellent choice for hiking during warmer weather, providing a cool and comfortable journey.

What truly sets this trail apart is its secluded atmosphere, offering a quieter alternative to more crowded spots in the park. This peaceful environment increases your chances of spotting local wildlife, such as deer and various bird species, as you wander through the immersive woodland. It's a wonderful option for those seeking a gentle, nature-filled walk with the added bonus of lake views and a magical, quiet ambiance.
