[Hôtel des Gourneaux] In this 15th century private mansion, the governor of the city was staying. From the 15th century, France was divided into twelve large provinces (Picardy, Brittany, Normandy, Provence...), roughly our current regions, but with simpler names. Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is simply called Provence! The governor is the representative of the king. He ensures public order and respect for royal authority. The governor of Picardy, Guillaume de Flavy, was suspected of having betrayed Joan of Arc.
