Hiking

The fort dates back to the time of French rule over Luxembourg and was built on the site of a Vauban gun battery, from which the north gate of the city was fired upon. The complex was demolished in the 1870s. Today, some parts of the redoubt and some walls still bear witness to the complex. The remains of the complex are open to the public, but the paths are unpaved and in some parts can only be reached via stairs.

Fort Thüngen, called Dräi Eechelen in Luxembourgish, is part of the historical fortifications of the city of Luxembourg. Fort Thüngen is located 400 meters east of Fort Niedergrünewald.

Built in 1684/85 by Vauban. The fort consisted of three bastions, two ramparts and extensive underground passages. Parts of the terraced bastion are still preserved today.
