Birch, alder, summer lilac and goldenrod characterize the heap, striking stone sculptures by the sculptor Ulrich Rückriem (*1938) serve as landmarks and refer to the former function of the heap as a storage site for the excavation from Zollverein shaft XII. Ulrich Rückriem's largest sculpture "Castell" (1992) at the southern end of the heap is a block composed of 24 granite blocks.
