Very nice uphill towards Santa Barbara if you don't want to drive over the highway (which is possible with a bike). On the way up you pass the bridge. The street has almost no traffic and is very quiet.

Embark on a memorable road cycling adventure with the Cold Spring Arch Bridge - National Landmark loop from San Marcos High School, a difficult 11.7-mile (18.8 km) route that promises stunning vistas and a solid workout. You'll traverse the Santa Ynez Mountains, cycling over the iconic Cold Spring Arch Bridge, which offers sweeping panoramic views of the deep canyon and surrounding peaks. The route includes 1544 feet (471 metres) of elevation gain, making it a challenging yet rewarding ride for experienced cyclists, typically completed in about 1 hour and 26 minutes.

Planning your visit means starting from the San Marcos High School area, where you'll find parking. Remember, this is a road cycling route on public roads, so be prepared for traffic and significant climbs and descents. There are no specific permits required, but always carry plenty of water, especially during warmer months, and consider cycling in the cooler morning hours or during the spring and fall for the most comfortable experience.

This route stands out for its incorporation of the Cold Spring Arch Bridge, a designated Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and the highest arch bridge in California. While the nearby Cold Spring Trail is a technical mountain biking path, this loop is specifically designed for touring cycling on paved roads, offering a unique way to experience the region's natural beauty and engineering marvels. You can even take a detour onto the historic Stagecoach Road for a different perspective of the bridge and a stop at the Cold Spring Tavern.
