On January 17, 1906, Count Zeppelin's second airship, LZ2, took off for its second test flight over Lake Constance. Strong southwest winds caught the airship and steered it towards Kisslegg. The engines and steering failed. An open field was targeted as a landing site. The Zeppelin's mooring moorings failed to grip the frozen ground, and the tail became entangled in a lone tree. The flight ended with a sudden jolt. The crew was unharmed.
