The Zuma Ridge Trail offers a consistent workout on a wide dirt service road, often called a fire road, providing continuous panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. As you hike, you'll see the coastline stretching from Zuma Beach all the way to Malibu. This moderate route covers 5.3 miles (8.5 km) with a significant elevation gain of 1435 feet (437 metres), typically taking about 2 hours and 50 minutes to complete.

When planning your visit, remember that the trail is largely exposed, so bring plenty of water and sun protection, especially during warmer months. Parking is conveniently available at the trailhead, which you can find off Busch Drive, just a short distance from Pacific Coast Highway. This trail is also dog-friendly, making it a great option if you want to bring your furry companion along for the hike.

This out-and-back trail is a popular choice in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, known for its steady uphill climb and the rewarding vistas it provides. The exposed nature of the route means you'll have uninterrupted access to these natural features, including a prominent viewpoint, but also very little shade along the way.
