In the year 851 AD. made Waltbrath, a grandson of Widukind, rest here in Drensteinfurt on his return journey from Rome to Wildeshausen, during which he carried the relics of St. Alexander.
The symbol shows how Waltbrath carries St. Alexander as a child on the wings of an eagle through the stone ford of the Werse in the Dren-Gau.
