Pizzichicchio, pseudonym of Cosimo Mazzeo (San Marzano di San Giuseppe, January 13, 1837 - Potenza, November 28, 1864), was an Italian brigand.
He was one of the last brigands in Southern Italy to be captured, to do this it took about one hundred men including the Royal Carabinieri, cavalrymen and other forces. He collaborated with other brigand chiefs, such as Sergeant Romano, Carmine Crocco, Nicola La Veneziana and Ninco Nanco, and is considered the most important figure of banditry in Salento. [

The Ceneviva murder, arrest and death
When one of its gangs assassinated National Guard captain Antonio Ceneviva, the state responded by sending a unit of ninety men in June. There was a clash at the Belmonte farm where the brigands had taken refuge. The National Guard and the Carabinieri failed to conquer the farm and retreated, the brigand commanded a surprise attack on the soldiers, but the military got the better, Mazzeo managed to escape arrest and remained in hiding for several months.
