The Castillo de Santa Bárbara is the most prominent landmark of Alicante and one of the most important fortresses on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Perched atop Mount Benacantil, some 166 meters above the city, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Alicante, the port, and the sea.

Mountain biking
At a height of 166 meters on the top of Monte Benacantil rises one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain. Up here the visitor has a perfect view of the bay of Alicante. The fortress stands on different levels and dates from three different eras: In the highest section (La Torreta) is the residential tower (Torre del Homenaje). The oldest remains of the castle can also be found here, most of which date from the 14th century.
