At over 120 years old, the Levensau high bridge near Kiel Suchsdorf is the oldest of the canal bridges, and it is also home to 6,000 noctule bats. This is the largest bat species living in Schleswig-Holstein. This means that the soon-to-be-historic bridge is the largest known winter roost of the species in Central Europe.
