The avenue goes back to Duke Karl Eugen, who had numerous avenues laid out in the vicinity of Ludwigsburg from 1754. Today the avenue consists of two rows of trees, mostly linden trees, with a few chestnuts in between. Only a few trees come from the original planting, most of the linden trees are around 80 years old or younger. The avenue structures and enriches the landscape. The oxygen production and the filtering of pollutants by the trees benefit the microclimate.
