This flax rotting was created by the Drüttern around 1650. The flax came to rot in the water. After that, the flax fibers were easier to peel off. The linen was spun into cloths and clothing. Flax cultivation had to be stopped in the 18th century.
After 1860 the Drütter in the pack bathed their sheep.
This historic flax rotting is unique in Lower Saxony and should be preserved and protected.
