The Ciudad Real bullring was built in 1843, inaugurated on August 17 of the same year. Before the construction of the enclosure, bullfighting shows were held in the Plaza Mayor of the capital of La Mancha. The land for the construction of the arena was ceded by the Muñoz family of Ciudad Real, its plans being designed by the Ciudad Real architect Manuel Gómez.
