The building, constructed in 1939, served as the official and country residence of the Nazi Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels. After 1945, the Soviet military briefly occupied the site. After the end of the Second World War, the Free German Youth (FDJ) moved there with their youth academy in 1946. From the 1950s, the youth college was expanded in the style of socialist classicism and operated until 1989, the end of the GDR. The area is a listed building, but is rapidly deteriorating, which is why Bogensee is considered a lost place.
