Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke, from 1870 Count von Moltke, called Helmuth von Moltke the Elder (the Elder), also referred to as "the great Silent", (* October 26, 1800 in Parchim, † April 24, 1891 in Berlin ) was a Prussian Field Marshal and Chief of the General Staff. In this capacity, he had a significant share in the victories in the three unification wars. He also worked as a writer.
