Hiking

The Sputhmühle was built in 1882 by Robert Sputh on the Sebnitzbach about 200 meters above the Mitteldorf station of the Sebnitztalbahn as a wood grinder. After Sputh received the patent for a process for the production of beer glass coasters in 1892, the Sputhmühle functioned as the world's first production site for beer mats made from ground wood, which were exported from here to Brazil. It is hard to imagine that large buildings once stood on this spot. You have to look closely to see the stones that are almost overgrown. The old weir is right on the hiking trail. There is an information board about the Sputhmühle, and beer mats and coasters used to be made there.
