Refugees and displaced persons from the former eastern territories of the German Reich made up about half of Schwarzenbek's population in the years following World War II. They embraced their new home without ever forgetting their old one.
They shaped Schwarzenbek's development in the years that followed, right up to the present day. The European City has now dedicated this memorial stone to them.
The memorial stone bears the coats of arms of the provinces from which the people of the former eastern territories came to Schwarzenbek.
The information panel provides a brief historical context.

In Schwarzenbek, this erratic boulder on Körnerplatz commemorates the flight and expulsion of millions of people after the Second World War, as well as the achievements of the regional associations. The memorial stone makes the historical immigration and the arrival of the displaced people in the region visible.
The wish of the Landsmannschaften for a worthy memorial in Schwarzenbek existed for years before the erratic boulder was erected.
After 1945, the population in the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg almost doubled temporarily due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons, to which the memorial stone provides a lasting reference.
