I would definitely recommend this to anyone exploring the Nottinghamshire area. Clumber Park was home to the Dukes of Newcastle for over three centuries and was once part of the famous Sherwood Forest until the Duke of Newcastle enclosed the estate as a hunting park for Queen Anne in 1707. Although there is no longer a house in the park there are many clues of its grand past to explore. In 1946 Clumber Park came into the care of the National Trust. Today the estate is grade I listed parkland with large areas also being Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Although I live 50 miles away in Rutland I often ride in this area when heading back up to Yorkshire. Miles and miles of quiet lanes through the grasslands and woods with tree-lined avenues to explore. A great place to have a picnic in good weather.
