The Jewish Synagogue used to be located in today's Touwstraat. In 1945 only eighteen Jews returned to Meppel, 232 Meppel Jews were murdered by the Germans and Meppel eventually turned into a city with almost no Jews. The synagogue, which has become useless, is therefore sold and in 1960 even demolished to the ground. The synagogue makes way for a shop.
